Tidal Drawings
These drawings explore the process by which materials settle into place over time. They draw on observation of rocks along coastlines that are heavily impacted by tidal processes, including traces of erosion on rock and the influence of waves that create large and small-scale changes along various shorelines.
The drawings in the exhibition record the lift, drag, and back-and-forth movement of sediment as it is carried by waves as they encroach and retreat along the shoreline, never settling in the same position twice. Small actions and traces are recorded along with larger sweeping marks and traces. Executed in graphite, the materials have dissipated into forms that recall sediment carried in water, wave patterns, and bedforms.
