Breccia

Breccia builds on my explorations with flint, a rock that reveals its crystalline interior when split apart, creating portals to icy, watery, and sometimes galactic spaces. This body of work earns its namesake from a type of sedimentary rock that is built of an accumulation of angular fragments of a variety of rocky materials, slowly building a new rock. These works similarly accumulate older photographs and newer additions to her collection, which are broken up and reassembled into new configurations. Close observations of the surfaces of these photographic works lend clues to their slow formation, revealing the vastness of these microscopic portals.

This body of work builds on my fascination with geological processes, the descriptive language around them and their capacity to inform the processes of artistic production, bringing us closer to what is happening to the planet.
